The Demand
This week, you identify who is developing whom in your building right now, and where that chain breaks. If you cannot trace the standard back through at least two cast generations, [Unifying Legacy] is not running in your operation — it is running on whoever happens to still be there, and it disappears the day they leave.
The Work
- Map your current cast by who trained whom. For every Lead, server, and kitchen role, write down who taught them the standard they hold today.
- Find every role where the answer is “nobody” or “a document.” Those are the gaps where the standard has no legacy behind it — it exists only because the current person happens to hold it.
- Pick one cast member who holds the standard well. This week, have them explicitly narrate to a newer cast member what came before them and what they are responsible for carrying forward — not just how to do the task.
- Name it out loud to that cast member: they are not just doing the job, they are carrying something that will continue after them. Tell them directly what they are responsible for passing on.
Before your next shift change, you have connected at least one cast member explicitly to the standard they inherited and the standard they are responsible for passing forward.
