Definition
The failure mode inside [Three Spheres] where the operator only reads one or two of the three spheres — Internal, External, Personal — and misses what the unread sphere is telling him. An operator who only reads Internal misses what Guests and the market are signaling. An operator who only reads External misses what is breaking inside the operation. An operator who ignores Personal carries unchecked bias and capacity limits into every decision.
Explanation
All three spheres are present at every inflection point whether the operator reads them or not. [Sphere Blindness] is what happens when the operator’s habitual attention only covers one or two, leaving the third to operate on the decision unread and unaccounted for.
The Personal sphere is the one operators go blind to most often, because operators are trained to treat the operation and the Guest as the only legitimate considerations. But the operator’s own capacity, bias, and depletion are real inputs into every decision whether or not the operator admits them into the read — [Sphere Blindness] toward Personal just means those inputs run unexamined instead of accounted for.
The discipline that corrects [Sphere Blindness] is reading all three spheres before acting on any significant decision, not cycling through them in sequence and not defaulting to whichever sphere is loudest in the moment. An operator who has never checked for [Sphere Blindness] in their own decision-making has almost certainly got a blind sphere they’ve never named.
