F01: Perspective
Definition
When an opportunity lands in front of you — a new menu direction, a catering program, a second location, a partnership, a technology platform — and the FOMO is real and the deadline is tight, run it through five questions before you answer.
Does it serve the Guest I built this for? Not a Guest in general. The specific Guest this concept was designed for. If it serves a different Guest, it is a different restaurant.
Does it strengthen what already works? If it requires the operation to become something it is not yet, the sequence is wrong. Build the foundation first.
Does it dilute the concept? Every addition to an operation either sharpens the identity or blurs it. There is no neutral. If you cannot explain how this fits in two sentences, it blurs.
Can I execute it at standard given everything already on the plate? An idea executed at 60% is not an opportunity — it is a liability. If the current operation is not running at standard, adding to it compounds the problem.
Is this more important than what I am already doing? Not more interesting. More important. If the answer requires justification, it is not more important.
Five questions. If the opportunity cannot clear all five, it is not an opportunity. It is a distraction with good marketing.
