Definition
The operator’s forced-choice posture in any interaction: give to the relationship as an investment, or take from it. There is no third option. Give corresponds to Road 2; Take corresponds to Road 1.
Explanation
Every coaching interaction is either an investment or an extraction, and the cast member on the receiving end can tell the difference even when the operator can’t articulate it. Give language treats the correction as building the cast member’s capability forward. Take language treats the correction as extracting compliance in the moment.
The paradigm’s name signals the cycle: learn happens when the cast member is given new capability, coach happens when the operator invests in shaping that capability toward the standard, relearn happens when the correction lands and the cycle starts again at a higher floor. Every pass through the cycle should raise the floor, not just repeat the same correction.
An operator running Take instead of Give can still deliver correct information. What’s missing is the investment framing — and the cast member registers the absence, whether or not the words were technically right.
