Definition
The recurring operator question set that surfaces drag. Canonical form, both questions: “What are we doing that’s prohibiting us from doing better work?” and “What do we need to stop doing that’s prohibiting us from being better?” The discipline is asking it on cadence and acting on the answers. Interrogative corrective on [Stale Thinking].
Explanation
The name is blunt on purpose. Most operating reviews ask what’s working, which is a comfortable question that produces comfortable answers. [Question Dumb Shit] asks the opposite question, aimed specifically at drag — the procedures, habits, and legacy decisions that used to make sense and now just cost time and energy without anyone noticing, because nobody’s asked the question in long enough.
The discipline half matters as much as the question half. Asking it once in a moment of frustration surfaces a list and changes nothing. Asking it on cadence, inside the [Reality Check] calendar, and actually acting on what surfaces — killing the thing, changing the thing, or consciously keeping it — is what turns the question from a vent into a working diagnostic.
