Explanation

Every cast member hits this fork many times in a single shift, usually without recognizing it as a decision at all. The choice to engage the Guest with intention or to run the interaction on autopilot script feels small in the moment — a greeting, a recommendation, a response to a complaint — but each one lands on one side of the fork or the other.

Defaulting doesn’t feel like a choice, which is exactly the danger [Point Of Experience] names upstream of this term.
