Transactional thinking. Everything is a number to be managed. The default fork of [Two Roads] — the road that requires only inaction to sustain, entered by design or by default, where Guests, cast, and vendors are read as units inside a transaction rather than people inside a relationship.

Explanation

Road 1 is not a character flaw or a moral failing — it’s the fork every operator lands on the moment they stop actively building the alternative. Where [Road 2] requires ongoing, deliberate construction, Road 1 asks nothing of the operator except to not choose.

That asymmetry is what makes Road 1 the dominant road in the industry. Every operator who has not done the work of building relational architecture is on Road 1, whether or not they identify with the transactional worldview it produces. The road is entered by drift as often as it’s entered by decision.

Everything downstream in the transactional family — [Transactional Arbitrage], [Transactional Thinking], [Transactional Instrumentation], [Transactional Mediocrity] — is a domain-specific expression of Road 1 running in a particular part of the operation. Naming Road 1 directly is what makes those instances legible as the same underlying choice repeating in different terrain.
