Definition

The structural minimum that every human touchpoint produces by virtue of being human. Connection is what every human at a touchpoint delivers before any training, recognition, or recovery is added. Remove the human, remove the floor — and whatever value lived above it goes with it.

Explanation

The floor is the load the human carries that no instrument replicates. Every automation argument that ignores the floor is an incomplete argument.

The human at a touchpoint produces something before any training runs, before any recognition script kicks in, before any recovery move is deployed. Just by being human in the moment, the touchpoint has a minimum output. That output is the floor.

The floor doesn’t require excellence. It requires presence. That’s why the substitution argument fails when it ignores the floor: a machine can produce the trained behavior above the floor, but it cannot produce the floor itself.

Every automation calculation that leaves out the floor prices the operation wrong. The floor is not a line item, but what the floor carries silently is what the machine substitute cannot deliver — and the substitution shows up in the P&L on a lag.
