Definition

Every Read in the book — the operator’s, the lead’s, the trainer’s, the cast member’s, the Guest’s — is built from the totality of input available to the reader, not from a finite or predefined input set. There is nothing inside the operation that is outside a Read. Every interaction, observation, conversation, question, silence, recovery, miss, and absence feeds it.

Explanation

The diagnostic line is in the last sentence: a reader sourcing their Read from a finite checklist is not running the Read — they’re running an evaluation. Evaluations have boundaries. Reads don’t.

This is what separates an operator who reads the operation from one who audits it. The auditor has a form, and anything off the form doesn’t register.
