The second rung on the H Ladder. In Transition. Warm. The operator is the source of hospitality but the business has not yet built it into the system. A step up from H¹ Service, which is cold and mechanical; a step below H³ Force Multiplier, where the system itself becomes the source.

Explanation

H² is the fragile middle rung, and naming it precisely matters because it’s easy to mistake for the destination rather than a transition. An operation at H² genuinely produces warmth — Guests can feel it, and the operator isn’t faking it — but the warmth is running through the operator personally rather than through the system the operator has built.

That’s exactly why it’s fragile. Warmth that depends on the operator’s personal presence disappears the moment the operator isn’t on the stage — a day off, a busy shift where they’re pulled elsewhere, eventual succession. The climb to H³ is precisely the work of taking what the operator alone currently produces at H² and building it into the system itself, so the hospitality survives and multiplies independent of any one person’s presence in the room.
