Definition

The operator’s discipline of aggregating sight from every relevant internal and external target into the forward decision that propels self, cast, and business forward. Vision is not the looking. Vision is the forward move that comes out of all the looking.

Double meaning, both required at once: Forward Vision — the MDV, where the operation is going, what the operator is building — and Present-And-All-Direction Vision — what the operator gathers from every direction of sight to feed the forward move. Ten sight targets feed it: Forward, Present, Past, Lateral, Vertical, Time, Self, and Cast (internal); Guest and [The Orbit] (external).

Explanation

Forward without present is delusion. Present without forward is reaction. The discipline is holding both at once, which is why vision is named a discipline and not a talent — talent looks in one direction well; the discipline looks in ten and still moves.

The operator who only tracks Forward is running on a plan that stops updating the moment the room changes. The operator who only tracks Present is reading the room accurately and going nowhere with it. [It’s The Vision Thing] pairs the two so the forward move is built on what is actually true right now, not on what was true when the plan was written.

[The Orbit] carries the external non-Guest sight — vendors, VIPs, neighbors, landlord, investors, press, regulators, community — the constituency operators have to track but rarely name as a group. Miss it and the forward move gets built on an incomplete map, even when the internal sight targets are all firing correctly.
