Definition
A methodology the leader deploys to lead the leadership team — the only group in the operation where wins and losses are bound at the outcome. Decisions about each lead’s domain are made in consultation with the lead who runs that domain, not over them. Consultation is not consensus: the operator listens, weighs, and decides. The decision is informed by the people who run the work.
Explanation
Giving up responsibility is not abdication. It is strength. The operator who refuses to consult — who runs every decision through their own preference — does not trust their own people, systems, or themselves to lead without dominating. That posture runs [The Scapegoat Model] at the leadership tier. It does not scale, and it burns out the leads it refuses to hear.
The methodology has four operating moves. Decisions about a lead’s domain are made with the lead, not over them. The operator still owns the final call — consultation is not consensus. Disagreements are surfaced in daylight, not bypassed on cover shifts. The leads are expected to consult each other on decisions that span both domains.
The methodology does not activate until Rung 3. Solo operators cannot deploy it — there is no leadership layer to consult. Operator + One at Rung 2 runs a partial version. At Rung 3 [Operator + Leadership Layer] the methodology becomes required. It carries through Rung 4 [Full Bench] and Rung 5 [Multi-Unit], where it is the only way the operator can lead at all without physical presence.
Contrast with the “T.E.A.M.” poster mantra. That phrase gets bastardized three ways: as a wall poster never operationalized, as a guilt lever pushing cast to cover for understaffing, and as cover for the operator’s refusal to lead. [Consultative Methodology for Leadership] is what makes the original mantra operationally true — it names the discipline the poster only points at.
