The touchpoint where a Guest is thinking about going out but has made no decision yet — scanning their own mental map of restaurants, memories, moods, and needs. The operator’s job at this touchpoint is to already be on that map: present through consistent signal, memorable identity, and earned recall, so the Guest doesn’t have to search for the operation when the decision moment opens.

Explanation

[Contemplation] happens before the Guest ever picks up the phone or opens an app. It’s internal — a private scan of options the Guest is barely aware they’re running. The operator who thinks the touchpoint sequence starts at the reservation or the door has already missed the first and most decisive one.

The ideal at this touchpoint is recall without effort. The Guest doesn’t think “let me search for somewhere good” — the operation is already sitting in the short list their mind produces automatically, because the operator did the work of building identity and signal long before this particular moment of hunger or occasion arrived.

The failure mode is [Miasma] — the operator who is simply not there when the Guest’s mind runs its scan. No signal was built, so no recall exists to be triggered. The operator waits to be chosen instead of having already earned a place in the Guest’s head before the choosing started.
