Definition
The failure state at any touchpoint where the operator is simply absent — not present, not engineered, not accounted for. At the Contemplation touchpoint, [Miasma] is the operator assuming presence equals consideration: waiting passively to be chosen instead of having already built recall, signal, and identity onto the Guest’s mental map before the decision moment opens.
Explanation
[Miasma] is not a bad move. It’s the absence of a move. The operator running [Miasma] hasn’t done anything wrong in the way a bad decision is wrong — they’ve simply not shown up to a touchpoint that was always going to get decided, with or without them.
That’s what makes it dangerous. A bad decision gets noticed and can get corrected. [Miasma] doesn’t announce itself. The Guest’s decision moment arrives, the operator was never on the mental map to begin with, and the operation loses a Guest it never knew it was competing for. Nothing breaks. Nothing shows up as an event. The operation just never appears in the moment that mattered.
The fix isn’t a bigger push at the moment of decision — by then it’s too late. The fix is upstream: consistent signal, memorable identity, earned recall, built before the Guest ever starts scanning their mental map. [Miasma] is what fills the space the operator left empty by not doing that work.
