Explanation

The Guest-side and cast-side halves of this term describe the same underlying dynamic from two different seats. On the Guest side, mastery is what an operation earns when its consistency removes the Guest’s need to calculate — no more wondering whether this visit will be as good as the last one, because the pattern has been proven enough times to be trusted.

On the cast side, mastery works as a gate rather than a ceiling. Reading a cast member for mastery of their current rung tells the operator whether that rung is genuinely solid — but a solid current rung is only the floor of the promotion read, not the whole read. A cast member can have fully mastered their current rung and still not be ready for the next one, because the next rung asks for a different verb entirely, not just more of the same skill at higher volume.
