Definition
Every choice in the operation amplifies — either amplifies what is working or amplifies what is broken. Neutral choices do not exist at operator scale. The operator’s decisions run through the operation and multiply. What compounds is a function of what the choices are amplifying.
Explanation
A well-designed role amplifies the cast member’s capacity. A poorly-designed role amplifies the cast member’s limits. A well-designed Product amplifies the Guest’s experience. A poorly-designed Product amplifies the friction. Every choice is a lever that multiplies whatever is on the other end of it.
The operator who chooses without seeing what is being amplified is running the operation blind. The choices still amplify — the operator just doesn’t know in which direction.
The scale of amplification is set by the operator’s position. Operator-scale choices amplify across every layer of the operation; cast-scale choices amplify across the touchpoints the cast holds. The higher the position, the wider the amplification.
